Journey to success

By Marcus

This is a story of a young man, let’s call him M.A., a man who is on his early 20’s, who has big DREAMS, and really BELIEVING it will happen. M.A. is a man with full of positivity in his everyday life and have faith that in time, in God’s time, what he DREAMS and what he BELIEVES in, will be ACHIEVED.

And now, this M.A. is entering the “real world” (the world after schooling), the world where there are no more grades, but just like in school, there’s always a lesson you need to learn everyday, the world where most of the teachers are everywhere, in the form of his colleagues, mentors, family, friends and girlfriend, where the fun and exciting part of his life takes place, and that part is his “JOURNEY TO SUCCESS”

This is composed of real-time stories of the M.A., the lessons he learned, people he meet, and experiences he had in his “JOURNEY to SUCCESS.”

It’s the JOURNEY, not the DESTINATION

Don Williams, Jr. (American Novelist and Poet, b.1968) says “The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.” It’s in the journey where we get our lessons, so expect this blog, to have lots of information and lessons that the M.A. gets in his everyday life that I will share. Also aside from the M.A.’s experiences and lessons, I will share some related research of the lessons that M.A. learned for the benefits of the readers. So hop in and let’s take the “JOURNEY to SUCCESS”

Who is M.A.

M.A. is a Filipino, the eldest of the 3 siblings. He has a brother and a sister. As the eldest, he is expected to be responsible of his younger brother and sister. He is a graduate of College of Fine Arts and Design major in Advertising in the University of Santo Tomas. He just recently graduated last March 26, 2010. He also has a wonderful girlfriend, let’s call her Jean. After graduation, M.A. becomes interested on having a business instead of looking for a job. Specifically, he becomes interested on doing a Real Estate business.

He loves playing basketball, reading books, hearing audio books, attending seminars, do paintings, watching movies, hanging out with his girlfriend and friends, working out and writing (specially his goals)

He is a quiet but not shy type of guy. He prefers to listen more than to talk more when hanging out with friends (except when he is with his Jean, he loves talking a lot with his girlfriend) , but he can stand up in front of a crowd and express himself. He is a very positive guy. He really DREAMS BIG and set GOALS to achieve his dreams. He really will be successful.

He is handsome and sexy (at least for his girlfriend, and for my mom... handsome only :) He has a brown complexion (a common Filipino complexion) that her girlfriend and her mother’s girlfriend likes :P

M.A.’s lesson for the day – Take 100% responsibility of your life

Now let me end this with M.A’s first lesson for the day in this blog. It’s the first step to success and let me say it to you, it’s not that easy.

Jim Rohn says “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.”
As I mentioned above, M.A. is a Filipino, and a very religious one(Philippines is the only Christian country in South East Asia) and he believes that somehow, somewhere, someone (certainly not us) is responsible for filling our lives with constant happiness, exciting career options, a wonderful family time, and delightful personal relationships simply be¬cause we exist. And for Filipinos it is the One who creates us, our Creator, our God.

But because of these beliefs, most Filipinos who experience failure, downfall, sadness, loneliness and other not so good experiences, who felt there’s no more hope in life, who felt they cannot do something if that’s what God wants them to be, still tends to give the responsibility, the blame, to the One who One who creates us, to God.

Yes we cannot control anything that happens outside ourselves, but we can control our reaction. We are responsible for our own life.

Yes we are in control.

You see, God gave us free will, God gave us the right to make decision and the right to choose, God gave us the abundance to live a fruitful and wonderful life. And our role is to take responsibility in our own life.

If you want to be successful, you have to take 100% responsibility for everything that you experience in your life. This includes the level of your achievements, the results you produce, the quality of your relationships, the state of your health and physical fitness, your income, your debts, your feelings—everything!
As I said earlier, it is not easy.

But to make it simple, I want to end this with a simple but very important formula that I learned from Jack Canfield that made this idea of 100% responsibility clearer. This formula is:

E + R = O
(Event + Response = Outcome)

The basic idea is that every outcome you experience in life (whether it is suc¬cess or failure, wealth or poverty, health or illness, intimacy or estrangement, joy or frustration) is the result of how you have responded to an earlier event or events in your life.

If you don’t like the outcomes you are currently getting, change your response.

We have the choice. We take 100% responsibility of our life.

Have a wonderful Journey to Success!
